Complexion Cornucopia: Quick Homemade Acne Remedies
March 19th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedIt’s happened to over 60 million Americans. You wake, you walk to the bathroom, you stare at your mirror’s reflection in horror. That pimple staring back at you wasn’t there when you went to bed last night. Waking up to an acne flare-up is a bad beginning to anybody’s day. Fortunately, there are many quick homemade acne remedies that can soothe pimples and still get you to work or school on time.
Acne is the most common skin disorder. It affects children as young as 10 years old! Acne Vulgaris is characterized by clogged pores that become pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. Deeper cysts and nodules can also occur and can leave permanent scars. Acne can appear on the face, neck, shoulders, back, upper arms, chest, and buttocks. While an embarrassing condition and often kryptonite to the self-esteem, acne is not life-threatening, and most cases come and go in about five years.
Short and Long Term Medical Treatments for Acne
Any prolonged acne flare-up should be treated by a dermatologist. The doctor can evaluate the skin and make recommendations for treatment. Teenagers often require an antibiotic prescription medication and/or topical cream to treat acne. Adult females may need to change birth control since some methods are known to aggravate acne and others tend to reduce the incidence of breakouts. For severe acne cases, Accutane is prescribed. This medication has a wide array of negative side effects such as causing depression and birth defects.
Quick Homemade Acne Remedies
Milk
Another option for treating pimples is to create your own quick homemade acne remedies. These often require simple ingredients found in your fridge or pantry. One popular treatment is a hot milk compress. Soak a clean washcloth in a mixture of 1 cup water and 1 cup milk. Place this over the face for five minutes to reduce redness and calm the skin.
Ice
Or to reduce the size of a new pimple, treat it with ice. Place ice directly on the pimple for two minutes; this should reduce the swelling. A warm compress can be used to bring a pimple to a head. Apply a hot compress for a few minutes, several times. Gently press (don’t squeeze!) the pimple to remove pus. Clean the area out with soap and water to keep bacteria from spreading.
Tea Tree Oil Etc.
Other quick homemade acne remedies include tea tree oil, oral and topical vitamins A, C, and E, aloe vera gel, and zinc oxide. Make sure to drink at least 64 ounces of water daily to flush the system of toxins. Maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and managing stress are other natural ways to keep acne at bay. All of these quick homemade acne remedies will prepare you to put your best face forward at work or school.

Skin Care for Different Types of Skin
March 18th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedOur skin comes in several types, like oily skin, dry skin, combination skin and normal skin. The right skin care for each type is skin is necessary for beautiful skin. Before you can worry about skin care, you must know what type of skin you have.
Oily Skin
People with oily skin usually have problems regarding excessive sebum production in the face. These people tend to have shiny faces after several hours of doing their skin care regimen. The right kind of skin care for oily skin is to get a toner or a cleanser to wipe clean the excess sebum.
This will eliminate clogged pores, thus eliminating the possibilities of acne and other skin blemishes. It is not a good idea to dry out our skin to lessen the oil. Dry skin tends to be sensitive and may develop skin blemishes.
Dry Skin
Skin care for dry skin is moisturizing it at night and before you start your day. If you have really dry skin you might add a deep moisturizer to your skin care regimen weekly to supplement your dry skin.
Try to avoid smoking and alcohol as these can dry out your skin even more as well as cold climates. Skin care for dry skin may even apply to your legs and arms which may appear scaly. If these are apparent in your case, moisturizing your legs and arms can be included.
Combination skin is a common occurrence for people. Skin care for combination skin is the same for either oily or dry skin. The usual parts of skin that are oily are the T-zone and the dry parts are the sides of the face near the cheek bones. This kind of skin type may be more expensive because you will usually use two kinds of products for each skin type.
Normal skin just requires cleansing and maintenance. Skin care for normal skin is less strenuous than the other types of skin. Another skin type is sensitive skin, which needs hypoallergenic products for skin care. People with this skin type must not use products that are heavily scented or heavily colored. It is best to look for products that are organic and botanical to prevent allergic reactions.
The kind of skin we have dictates the kind of skin care we need to use on it. If we care for our skin in a wrong way, we eventually get skin blemishes and other skin disorders. Knowing one’s skin type is essential for the proper care of skin.

Proactiv for Proactive Acne Treatment
March 17th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedOne of the most marketed and recognizable acne treatment systems is Proactiv Solution. This brand has a very simple, three step approach to acne treatment. Various celebrities appear in commercials for Proactiv to target both adolescent and adult consumers. Beautiful female celebrities such as Vanessa Williams and Jessica Simpson claim the product has helped clear up their “problem skin.”
Whether or not Proactiv is right for you, it is one “proactive” acne treatment choice. Taking steps to treat acne is a good thing though it may take trial and error to find the right system that works for you. This article will focus on Proactiv Solution and explain why Proactiv above other brands is a proactive acne treatment system.
Get Proactive with Proactiv
Proactiv Solution was one of the first acne lines sold through television and print advertisements which included a Combination Therapy System, a phrase coined by Proactiv. The Proactiv Solution system can be broken down into its three main steps which are as follows: Renewing Cleanser, Revitalizing Toner, and Repairing Lotion. The three steps and a brief description of each follow:
Step #1 Renewing Cleanser: This oil free cleanser uses tiny grains to exfoliate the skin and prescription strength benzoyl peroxide to kill acne-causing bacteria.
Step#2 Revitalizing Toner: This alcohol free toner removes dead skin cells and oil and balances skin’s ph with botanicals to leave it fresh and clean.
Step #3 Repairing Lotion: This oil free lotion contains prescription strength benzoyl peroxide to heal blemishes and prevent future breakouts. It also soothes and moisturizes the skin.
Proactiv’s proactive acne treatment system also offers the following three additional treatment options which can be added to the regular three step regime.
The first step includes the Refining Mask which contains sulfur that dries acne pimples. Step 2 is the Oil-Free Moisturizer with SPF 15 that can be used in place of the Repairing Lotion. It moisturizes acne prone skin and provides sun protection. Step 3 is the Daily Oil Control which keeps the face from looking oily and contains alcohol. It can be used after toner and before Oil-Free Moisturizer or Repairing Lotion.
The do-it-yourself quality of Proactiv Solution appeals to many consumers including both adolescent and adult acne sufferers. It is a proactive acne treatment system (hence the name) because those using the system are taking responsibility for the treatment of their acne. It is ultimately in the acne sufferer’s hands to find the right treatment for their acne and Proactiv is just one of many reputable and affordable treatment options. When considering skin regimen options, do think about Proactiv for proactive acne treatment.

A Guide to Serious Skin Care
March 17th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedWhen it comes to skin care, you really have to take it seriously. If you want to stay looking healthy and youthful even in your later years, you are going to need to start taking care of your skin now. There are some serious skin care tips that everyone should be aware of.
Serious Skin Care Tip #1 – Protect Yourself from the Sun
Everyone wants to get a beautiful glow, and sitting out in the sun is a great way to do this. It is important to do this in moderation however. You should never sit out in the sun for more than a few hours at a time, and never ever without sunscreen. You can still get a great tan while wearing sunscreen, and this way your delicate skin will be protected from the harmful UV rays of the sun at the same time.
Serious Skin Care Tip #2 – Eat Right
Many people are not aware of just how big an impact their diet has on their skin. It is not necessarily true that eating fatty and sugary foods will cause you to have acne or even bad skin at all, but by eating a healthy and well balanced diet your skin will definitely show improvement. Make sure that your diet includes lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and of course that you are drinking enough water, at least six to eight glasses of water a day.
Serious Skin Care Tip #3 – Cleanse and Moisturize
Cleaning and moisturizing your skin are two of the most important things that you can do. This goes for your entire body, and the best idea is to clean and pat dry your skin, and then while it is still moist you want to use a good lotion or body cream and moisturize it. When the skin is still a bit wet it will be able to absorb the moisturizer better, which in turn will keep it from getting too dry and flaking.
Serious Skin Care Tip #4 – Buy the Right Products
The last skin care tip to be discussed here involves buying the right skin care products. Just because one product works well for one person, this does not mean that it will work the same for you and it is very important that you keep this in mind. You first need to determine what type of skin you have, and work from here, whether you have dry, oily, or normal to combination skin.
